1. Introduction and Acceptance

Welcome to Uni Feedback ("we," "us," "our," or the "Platform"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our university course review platform and related services. By accessing or using our Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Platform.

2. Description of Service

Our Platform provides a service for university students in Portugal to submit, read, and share course reviews to help fellow students make informed decisions about course selection. The Platform includes:

Course review submission system for Portuguese universities
Review browsing and search functionality
An AI assistant ("the Chat") that answers questions about courses and degrees
Administrative dashboard for platform management
User verification and moderation systems

3. User Accounts and Eligibility

3.1 Student Users

You must be a current or former university student in Portugal to submit reviews
You may only submit reviews for courses you have actually taken
You must provide a valid university email address for verification purposes
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information

3.2 Administrator Users

Administrator accounts are granted at our sole discretion
Administrators must provide valid contact information
Administrator privileges may be revoked at any time without notice

4. User Content and Submissions

4.1 Review Requirements

Reviews must be for courses you have personally taken at a Portuguese university
Reviews must be honest, accurate, and based on your genuine experience
Reviews must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content
Reviews must not include personal information about instructors or other students beyond what is academically relevant

4.2 Content Ownership and License

By submitting a review or any content to our Platform, you grant us:

A perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, distribute, and display your content
The right to use your content for analytics, insights, reports, and other business purposes including potential partnerships with universities
The right to sublicense these rights to third parties
The right to use aggregated and anonymized data derived from your content for commercial purposes
The right to export your content in various formats (CSV, PDF, summaries) for business purposes, excluding personally identifiable information

You understand that by submitting content, you are contributing to a public educational resource, and your content may be used to generate valuable insights about Portuguese higher education.

4.3 Content Modification and Moderation

All submitted reviews are subject to administrator approval before publication
We reserve the right to modify submissions to fix grammatical errors, improve clarity, or enhance writing quality while preserving the original message and intent
We may remove or reject content that violates these Terms, is inappropriate, or appears to be fake or fraudulent
We are not obligated to publish any submitted content
Fake reviews will be permanently removed from the Platform

4.4 Review Authenticity and Verification

We verify course enrollment through university email domain checking and other methods
If review authenticity is disputed, we may contact you for additional verification
Reviews may remain unpublished until authenticity is confirmed
Submitting fake reviews may result in permanent account suspension

4A. The AI Assistant (Chat)

4A.1 What the Chat Is

The Chat answers questions about courses and degrees using information held on the Platform: course details we have gathered, and reviews written by other students. It is a way to read our data, not a separate source of knowledge.

The Chat is in beta. It is available to signed-in students, and it is subject to daily usage limits. We may change those limits, restrict access, or switch the Chat off entirely at any time and without notice.

How much the Chat knows varies a great deal between universities and between courses, because it answers only from the information we hold. For some courses it will tell you it does not know. That is the Chat working as intended rather than failing, and we would rather say so than guess.

4A.2 The Chat Can Be Wrong

The Chat produces answers automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. In particular:

Course details such as ECTS, assessment methods, and timetables change between academic years, and our records may lag behind the university's
Answers summarise student opinions, which are subjective by nature
The Chat may misunderstand a question, or answer about a different course than you intended

Do not rely on the Chat for academic, financial, or enrolment decisions without checking the source. Always confirm anything that matters against your university's official information. Nothing the Chat says is advice of any kind, and the disclaimers and limitations in Sections 11 and 12 apply to it in full.

4A.3 Your Conversations

Conversations you have with the Chat are private from other users: no other student can read them.

They are linked to your account, in the same way the reviews you write are, and they are stored on our servers.

The Uni Feedback team can read them. We do this to understand what students are looking for, to find gaps in the information we hold, and to improve the Platform and the Chat itself. Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.

Because of this, do not enter personal or sensitive information into the Chat, whether about yourself or anyone else. That includes contact details, identification numbers, health or financial information, and information that identifies other people.

To answer your questions, your messages are sent to a third-party AI provider acting on our behalf. See the Privacy Policy for who that is and what it means.

4A.4 Acceptable Use of the Chat

You agree not to:

Use the Chat for anything unrelated to Portuguese universities, their degrees, and their courses
Attempt to extract information about other users, or the personal data of any individual
Attempt to bypass usage limits, access controls, or safety instructions, including by automated means
Use the Chat to generate content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or that infringes the rights of others
Resell, redistribute, or systematically extract Platform data through the Chat

We may suspend or remove access to the Chat, or to the Platform, for any breach of this section.

4A.5 Feedback on Answers

Where you rate an answer or leave a comment about it, you agree that we may use that feedback to evaluate and improve the Chat.

5. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent reviews
Review courses you have not taken
Use the Platform for commercial solicitation or spam
Attempt to manipulate or game the review system
Violate any applicable laws, university policies, or Portuguese regulations
Interfere with the Platform's operation or security
Create multiple accounts to circumvent our policies
Submit content that is defamatory, harassing, or violates others' rights

6. Content Disputes and Takedown Process

6.1 Dispute Procedure

Universities or individuals may dispute reviews by:

Sending a formal complaint to [email protected]
Providing specific details about alleged violations
Including supporting evidence where applicable

6.2 Our Response Process

We will review all disputes within 7-14 business days
We assess whether content violates our Terms or guidelines
We may remove content that clearly violates our policies
We will not remove reviews simply because they are negative or critical
Our decisions prioritize honest student experiences while preventing defamation

6.3 Academic Freedom Protection

We strongly support students' right to share honest educational experiences. Reviews reflecting genuine student perspectives, even if critical, are valuable contributions to educational transparency and will generally be maintained unless they violate specific content policies.

7. Intellectual Property Rights

7.1 Platform Content

The Platform, including its design, functionality, and original content, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws.

7.2 User-Generated Content

While you retain certain rights to your original content, you grant us the extensive license described in Section 4.2 above. This ensures we can fulfill our mission of improving Portuguese higher education through data-driven insights.

8. Platform Legal Protections

8.1 Platform Immunity

As an intermediary platform hosting user-generated content, we operate under applicable Portuguese and European Union laws governing online platforms. We are not liable for user-generated content but reserve the right to moderate content according to our policies.

8.2 Anti-SLAPP Protection

We will vigorously defend against attempts to silence legitimate student speech through frivolous legal threats. Users who submit good faith reviews about their educational experiences are engaging in protected expression.

9. Privacy and Data Use

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference, for information about how we collect, use, and share your data.

Key points:

Student emails are only visible to administrators for verification
We use email only for verification, follow-up questions, and appreciation
Author identities remain confidential in all published content
Chat conversations are private from other users, but are stored, linked to your account, and can be read by the Uni Feedback team (see Section 4A.3)
To answer your questions, Chat messages are sent to a third-party AI provider acting on our behalf
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except as described in the Privacy Policy or as legally required

10. Platform Modifications

We reserve the right to:

Modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Platform at any time
Update these Terms with reasonable notice
Change our content policies and moderation practices
Partner with universities to provide educational insights

11. Disclaimers and Limitations

11.1 Content Accuracy

Reviews reflect individual user opinions and experiences
We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of user-generated content
Course information may change, and reviews may become outdated
Use reviews as one factor among many in educational decisions

11.2 Platform Availability

We provide the Platform "as is" without warranties of any kind
We do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted access to the Platform
We are not liable for technical issues or service interruptions

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Portuguese law:

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
We are not responsible for decisions made based on Platform content
We are not liable for disputes between users and universities

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from:

Your use of the Platform
Your violation of these Terms
Your submission of content that infringes third-party rights
Fake or fraudulent reviews you submit

14. Termination

14.1 By You

You may stop using the Platform at any time. For account-related questions, contact us at [email protected].

14.2 By Us

We may terminate or suspend your access immediately for violations of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion.

14.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases, but our license to your content survives as outlined in Section 4.2.

15. Dispute Resolution

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law and European Union regulations.

15.2 Informal Resolution

Before formal legal action, we encourage contacting us at [email protected] to resolve disputes.

15.3 Jurisdiction

Any legal proceedings shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Portuguese courts.

16. General Provisions

16.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us.

16.2 Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

16.3 Updates

We may update these Terms periodically. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

16.4 Language

These Terms are provided in English. In case of conflicts between translations, the English version prevails.
